iPhone Cacheability

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Here’s an excellent article from YUIblog about the web performance on iPhone and iTouch’s Mobile Safari.

http://yuiblog.com/blog/2008/02/06/iphone-cacheability/

Making good use of your browser’s cache is the key; I’ve noted some useful facts:

  • iPhone won’t cache components bigger than 25K!
  • The iPhone browser was able to cache a maximum of 19 external 25KB components. The maximum cache limit for multiple components is found to be 475K - 500 KB.
  • The iPhone browser cache is not persisted across power cycle.
  • The typical data download speed varies from 82 kbps to 150 kbps.(EDGE)

Now it’s time to optimise my webapp further! Haha~

The Web 2.0 Bookshelf

The Web 2.0 Bookshelf
— The new web is all about creativity, cross-pollination of concepts, media and information. But what fuels this new web is networks. In his recent article, Dion Hinchcliffe calls social networks the Web 2.0 secret sauce. Very rightly so, because networks are one of the fundamental blocks or patterns occurring in nature. So the some of the books that I assembled for the Web 2.0 bookshelf are about patterns in nature and power of networks.

A really helpful web developer’s booklist…

I’m going to buy “Introduction to Algorithms” and “PHP cookbook” to kill my book grant…
